An extra hour…really?

extra hourIt's interesting to watch so many people get excited about setting the clocks back for Daylight Savings time. I saw questions like “Did you use your extra hour to sleep in or stay up?” and “What did you do with your extra hour?” posted on social media.

Was it really an extra hour? Or was it simply a shifted hour?

Can we only “gain” an hour once a year?

I think the truth is that we become so busy in the day to day operations and obligations that we forget that we can create an unlimited supply of “extra” hours any time we want. A few things that come to mind…

  • Pick a day each week, month, or quarter to leave work early or go in late.
  • Turn the TV off or DVR your favorite programs.
  • Cut back on web surfing.
  • Cut back on social media time.

Remember that this is your choice, you're in charge of your life. Be purposeful. Do it intentionally. Figure out where you want to create the time and how you want to spend it once you have it.

  • Call a friend.
  • Take a nap.
  • Take a walk.
  • Plan a family activity.

What other ways can you think of to free up an hour? How will you spend it? Share below…

My wife and I used the extra hour yesterday to cook a huge breakfast for the kids! 🙂 It was great!

But you are so right! We can create extra hours any time we want! For me, it would definitely be about cutting back on web surfing.

    Thanks for writing this Teresa!

Sounds like a fun time, Russ!

I hear you on the web surfing. There’s just so many great blogs out there like yours though that it makes it tough!
