Save time and money by adding SOPs to your flow
When you’re an entrepreneur, there’s nothing better than getting more done in less time. Every business has tasks that are necessary. Things that can’t be eliminated, but have to get done by someone. Somehow.
The single biggest issue I hear from my clients is the lack of time to get everything done. Incorporating the strategy I'm sharing today will ensure you can continue to focus on the tasks that only you can do as your business grows.
SOP Definition: a set of fixed instructions or steps for carrying out routine operations
The use of an SOP makes a huge impact. Standard operating procedures can save you time, money and simplify the routine, allowing you to delegate so you can focus on higher priorities in your business.

- Is it repeatable? Something that is done regularly like cleaning equipment or processing invoices or sending out thank you notes?
- Can you document in writing or with visual instructions a detailed “how to” process?
- Is there a standard that can be quantified?
If yes, then you can create your SOPs and use them to train and delegate to others. Even if you continue to do the task you’ll save time if you do it the same way each time.
This doesn’t have to be complicated. Among many other repeatable tasks, I have used this process with my Virtual Assistants to publish blog posts, add plug-ins to websites and send out thank you emails with getting started documents.
The 3 tasks I just mentioned all follow the same process every time. I created a video demonstrating exactly what steps to take, and how to ensure it’s done correctly. The best part? Multiple people can watch the video and I know that they’ll all do the task the same way I did it. I also had my VA transcribe a SOP from the video!
Ask your team to keep a short list of tasks they do over and over. Keep one for the things you do repeatedly, too. Many times, this helps relieve delegation anxiety once you see how using an SOP will maintain the quality you require.
Here are a few areas to help you identify where you can incorporate SOP’s to keep your business running smoothly.
- Blog Posts
- Social Media Posting/Sharing
- Prospect Follow Ups
- Client Onboarding
- Emails to list
- Webinars
- Facebook Live
