Your Mid-Year Business Review: Let’s Rock the Last Half of 2018!
I don't want to alarm you…but…2018 is half over.
Where did the time go?! It's spooky how fast the year can fly by.
Since this is the middle of the year and the beginning of both quarter 3 and the second half of 2018, now is a great time to assess your business and goals, course correct, and figure out what you need to do to make the last half of this year your most successful six months ever!
I love doing business assessments because they allow me to process the lessons I've learned about life and business over a certain chunk of time, and it's a great chance to actually slow down and take a good look at where I am and where I want to go. This is crucial for business success. It's so easy to just go, go, go without taking a breather to get back in touch with your goals.
How many times have you worked straight through six months or a year without really thinking about it? How much did your business grow during that time? Probably not as much as you'd hoped.
Trust me, it's worth it to take the time to reorganize and refocus.
Okay! Let's do a mid-year review! Here are some questions and to-dos to help you take stock and set a course for the last half of 2018.
Assess the first half of 2018:
Where's the money?
Now's a good time to take a look at your finances if you haven't checked for a while. Tally up your profits and expenses for the year so far. This is also a good time to get that stuff organized if you've fallen behind on your books.
How are your goals?
Take a look at your business goals that you set at the beginning of the year. How have you done so far? Have you reached any of your goals? Are you behind on any? Have you changed your mind? (This is totally okay, by the way.)
What were your biggest wins?
How did they happen? Create action steps that help you remember to repeat the steps that garnered the greatest results.
What were your biggest flops?
Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently in the last six months? What didn't work so well? This isn't about beating yourself up, it's just about informing your actions in the six months ahead.
What are your biggest takeaways so far this year?
Write them down! Experience IS the best teacher. Keep this list in front of you while you look ahead and plan your second half of the year.
Speaking of that…
Look ahead: Planning the rest of 2018
Ask yourself these questions and write down your answers.
-What products and services do you want to create in the next six months?
-How much money do you want to make? What do you need to do to make that happen? (Services and products to make, clients to bring on, prices to raise, etc.)
-Are there any services you're paying for that you aren't using? Are there any financial or time leaks in your business?
-When was the last time you raised your prices? Is that price point still working well for you or is it time to raise prices?
-What promotions do you want to run for the rest of the year? Are there any holidays or events that you could utilize for sales, contests, or promotions? Remember, it's not too early to think about the holidays and the holiday shopping season like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Small Business Saturday.
-What do you want to learn in the next six months? Skills to learn? Programs? Books you want to read or courses to take? Certifications you want to do?
-When will you take breaks or vacations in the next six months (this is important too!)
-What do you need in order to make these things happen? Support? Money? Resources or supplies? Knowledge? Take some notes to plan out any steps you'll need to take in order to reach your goals.
You did it! Now you're ready to rock the rest of 2018, whatever that looks like for you.
